While he may continue to have difficult moments during school hours she can
help him at home by getting him a calculator.
Many, many kids never successfully memorize multiplication tables. It has
no bearing on their success as an adult unless they've been made to feel
stupid. A compassionate mom can help deflect those self defeating feelings.

When/if he goes to college he will be expected to use the scientific
calculator. Memorized multiplication tables won't amount to a hill of
beans.

It used to be that memorizing math facts was a really useful tool because
people didn't always have a pencil and paper handy and calculators hadn't
been invented yet. Today we carry pens and paper with us and have
calculators in our pockets and purses and on our shopping carts or use
computer programs for the big stuff.
