"milton,f;orida,,,just east of pensacola,,,got to meet ren and her
kids,,,cool
folks to know,,,glad i do"

I met June at a beach on the bay, it was full of sea grass and
interesting creatures. June was NOT one of the Mums sitting on the
sidelines, she was out in that water searching for hermit crabs and
whelks and whatever else with her kids.
I love the gentle way you interact with your children June, you're
sure to find the path to unschooling much easier because of that!

oh gosh karen,,if you only knew,,,ive had more '''horrible mommy moments
'''than id care to count.but ,as i watch my babies grow up ive realise that
somewhere along the path im doing alot right ,,example,,me and my 18 year old,,had
an argument the other day,he said i lied when i didnt see it that way ,,but in
reality a lie is an untruth, soooo i was wrong ,and i wrote him a note
apologizing and explaining why i was ,,,it was cool,,,,
when ive had the worst '''horrible mommy moments '''its been well meaning
advice or nosey busy bodies that have'nt a clue.mostly aged mom-in-law,,,,i have
the up most love and respect for her...but like ive told my hubby,{who deals
with bipolar/major depression/scizophrenia,,}i have the ability to deal
effectly with one of them not both her and him,and since im married to him,,i chose
him...she's a loooooong story,,not one i want to go indepth into,not unless
someone wants to,,,,my point,,follow your common sense with ya kids and most
often times you do alright...you run into problems when you let well meaning {or
not}people interfere....
i just find it a pity ,,mine are practicly grown before i figured that
out..i've always loved getting out with the kids and doing kid things,,,catching
minnows for our on going aquaruim,,playing with water guns,,,which is a yearly
tradition with us ,,,
heck
all this unschooling stuff has to some degree been apart of our lives from
the get go,,i never knew it had a name...my older two kids bless their hearts
were everybit the guinea pigs,,,every body had the right way they should eat or
sleep or grow or weigh,,that i was a frazzled bunch of nerves before it was
all over,,,i love them dearly ,,i am extremely proud of them and tell
them,,,,often, but i didnt start throwing away alot of the crap that i was allowing
people was filling my mind with,,,till i had my 3rd.son,but i wasnt able to relax
till my daughter was close to 3 yrs.old,,it helped alot that we moved out
where we are now,,in the woods ,,close enough to everything that we can get to
town when we want to ,,,but far enough away from people with warped
reality,,,that we rise our kids without alot of frustration,,other, than our own,,

,i also had to learn what boundaries are and to set up certain boundaries on
what i will and wont do,,,and i also learned the word no,,isnt a dirty
word,,no soo much my kids but with people and situations outside my family.
they grow up soo fast,,some people from old ways of thinking cant fathom how
much fun kids can be ,they are also the one who look at them getting to be
teenagers and say with a tone of doom,,ohjust wait till they hit the teen
years,,well i have three,,handsome teenage gentlemen..150% men,,their humor escapes
me more times than i dare say..our taste of music sometimes blends ,,most time
not,,they are into video games that i dont understand or just dontlike ,,
but,,they got all that from my taste in music which covers a wide range of
types, mine and hubby's warped and sometimes tacky humor,,and atari and the first
nintendo!!
we talk about things sometimes id rather not hear,,,but i feel soo honored
they would talk to me or tell me things id never told my mom at their age,,,but
i am also learning the fine art of ''just listening''with out advice,,,that
one is hard!!some days i shine at it other times i stink and get reminded
,,,lol,,,
i'm still learning,,,but,,im loving it more now than ever!!
June

Hi Geneva,

I'm in Grand Prairie. I know one other unschooling
mom with a 3 yr old, and a few other homeschooling
families through a local homeschool support group
(Tarrant Home Education Association - THEA). My
children are too young for most of the scheduled THEA
activities, but we usually meet with the homeschooling
families on our own for weekly science museum trips &
playgroup.
