Joanne

I'm looking for childrens books on positive affirmations, spirituality,
personal development, meditations, etc. I find TONS written for adults
but very, very few for children.
I'm looking mostly for non-fiction but fiction is good also.

Thanks!

My favorite for positive affirmation is "The
Firecat"---an easy reader. It seems to have in mind a
liitle child that is maybe clumsy and anxious to do
something important in life, and of course, the book
has a happy ending!

When I think of more I'll e-mail.

Depends on what kind of focus you are interested in....

I am pagan and I love "Circle Round" by Starhawk. It has stories and activities based around the seasons and loving the earth.

"The Rough-Faced Girl" by ?-a Native American
Cinderella
"The Hundred Dresses"--Eleanor Estes-compassion,
misunderstandings, assumptions

More ideas: Go to Amazon.com and select "children's
books", then from the categories, select "issues".
There is everything from adoption to multiculturism to
bullies to friendship.

I don't necessarily buy any books from Amazon, but I
love to use it to look at books. I probably read more
about books that I read books!

Thank you all. I wrote down the ones that were suggested so far and
am going to take a look at them in the library.
If anybody has any other suggestions (especially non-fiction-we have
so many stories already), please pass them on.

Thanks! :-)

One of our favorite books is Zen Shorts. It is a fiction book about a
wonderful panda that moves next door to three children and teaches them in
very unschoolish ways through Zen stories. He acknowledges their feelings
and never belittles their mistakes, but uses them as learning moments.
While fiction, it is SO affirming and positive and has led to some wonderful
discussions about real life situations we have faced.
