Re: [Unschooling-dotcom] Meeting new people..Fill in the blanks...Please.

We hs/unschool because(our reasons changed over time so I'll list them
chronologically);
My son started hating school half way through grade one and his sister
at the same time was in kindergarten and extremely spirited and we
didn't want her labelled ADD. I didn't know * just* how spirited she was
until I found out from former volunteer moms and Sam after she was
pulled out.
I had had Optic Neuritis and had been blind in the eye for 5 days during
this same year and with other presenting symptoms suspected Multiple
Sclerosis.
Researched hs'ing and wondered why we hadn't considered it before.
Homeschooling/Unschooling ... as my disease has progressed (flare ups
with numb limbs, extreme tingling, weak legs, extreme fatigue, cognitive
difficulties <mush brain> and then periods of remission with not quite
total recovery, fatigue being the problem, I was glad of having nobody
elses's schedule to follow.
Gaining confidence in our children's abilities to learn furthured us on
to an almost total unschooling approach.
I admit I am math phobic and do whine at them occasionally about fitting
in some math.
We have one * labelled * child ... intellectually gifted ...didn't want
to leave school, stayed there and thrived, always knew she could leave
when she wanted too (pissed off the teachers cause she took no crap and
still doesn't).
She is in a self paced high school which is as close to hs'ing as one
can get in the Ps.
