Hi~Hi ...

I have a quickie ??? ... I guess I'm in the dark or something b/c I don't
believe I've heard of the Redwall series until a friend mentioned it earlier
this eve; it seems her 11yo ds literally devoures these books??? they are
leaving town for a few wks vacation early in the morning so I won't be able
to ask for the info and I know it's going to bug me to death while they are
away ... so, I'd like input if you know anything about this and also if you
know where can I purchase these books???

goodness, after reading some of the responses about filling out forms for
the school districts, *ACK*, I'm glad we're in TX ... we don't answer to
anyone in TX, nor do we have a set # of school days, and h-s'rs are
considered private schools, etc~yadda~yadda~yadda ... okkkkkkk, I guess
considering what other h-s'rs have to deal w/ I guess the heat isn't *that*
bad, lol ...

Hail Brian Jacques! The author of the Redwall books. My son Nicholas, 9
years old, reads them for hours on end. You would be able to purchase them
anywhere. Or at least you should be able to. Some of the book titles are
Redwall, Marlfox, Pearls of Lutra, Legend of Luke, Mossflower, Mattimeo,
Mariel of Redwall, Salamandastrom, Martin the Warrior, The Bellmaker,
Outcast of Redwall, The long Patrol, The Great Redwall Feast (this is a
short BEAUTIFUL book, that even my 5 year old enjoys). There are probably
more, but he has read all but two of these books. They range anywhere from
about maybe 350 to 450 or so pages, except for the Redwall Feast, it's only
about 30 pages or so, with gorgeous illustrations. The books are just
fantastic. There are parts in them with some of the characters getting
killed or whatnot, but I feel Nicholas has dealt with the stories fine, and
they fuel his imagination tremendously.

We have checked most of them out at the library, however they would be nice
to own and we are planning on getting his Brian Jacques library expanded
soon.

Have fun! I'm sure your son/daughter will love them!

Also, just a quick note, we also ADORE Jane Yolen, good books, full of
imagination and magical ideas and lore. She's written many books, just do a
search....

oh my gosh. I think I would have went ballistic!!!!!!! "going postal" comes
to mind. That is crazy, isn't it interesting when one blankity blank can
just try to inflict his little power trip caused by his major inferiority
complex ON YOU! I just despise it when things like that happen. I would go
farther than the head librarian, never know who's 'pet' this little jerk
might be...I would take it to a superviser of several branches or something.
I can't believe he did that, it's even heating ME up! HELLO?!?! Gosh, I
can't even believe it. And you don't need to deal with that again either.
Well, calm down and scrub and just deal with it by notifying a higher up to
make sure that it won't happen again. WHere do you live???

Now, I'M going to go scrub somethin!

Hi again,

... ok ... I've calmed down a bit since this afternoon, sorry I didn't mean
to UNLOAD on everyone ... well, hehe, YES I DID!!! <G>

I *finally* talked w/ the main lib and gave her my list of complaints ... @
first she said, "well, maybe he thought you were a ps teacher and *maybe* he
was wondering why you needed to use your teacher's card in June" ... I told
her "noooooo, I told him I was a h-s'r and he proceeded to thumb through my
books *analyzing* whether/not these were acceptable/not, besides we *DO*
have year~round schools in our area, so summer months wouldn't be a valid
reason!!!" after a long drawn out conversation about how it REALLY isn't
THEIR business to scrutnize what my family decides to read (freedom of info,
don't you know), etc, I told her I have one child who doesn't LIKE to read
(just yet, anyway) and I'd WALK OVER COALS if I thought something might
interest him and DUH, I thought that was the big idea of bringing our dch to
the library, in the first place, to LIGHT those little FIRES but after all,
isn't THAT the idea behind the lib's *goofy* SUMMER READING PROGRAM and
rewarding w/ incentives; t-shirts, certificates, ice cream treats, etc ...
trying to get kids to read??? ... I also told her "btw, my fm NEVER
participates in the summer reading program even though I bring a laundry
basket to haul all our books home on lib day ... I want my boys to read for
PLEASURE *NOT* b/c someone dangled rewards under their noses" ... I also
said I'd gone through the same thing a few wks ago b/c the lib questions a
vegetarian cookbook I was using for school, for goodness sakes!!! the
reason I wasn't able to check the v-cb out on my teacher's card was b/c the
lib said this wasn't a juvenile book so I had to check it out on my regular
card EVEN THOUGH we were using it for school!!! ... goodness, little kidos
can walk into our lib and click on porn sites BUT I can't check out books
for my dch w/ my teacher's card??? I DON'T THINK SO, something is
WACK~o~WRONG w/ THAT LOGIC!!! *DUH* ... I told her the same thing I told
the other lib, "h-s'ing mom's are VERY RESOURCEFUL individuals and we'll use
JUST ABOUT ANYTHING we can get our hands on to educate our dch!!!" I said
"of course, I *could* just GIVE IN and do like a friend suggested and just
*buy* the books from a local bookstore BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT, doesn't the
Constitution guarantee me some rights here??? besides, I don't *always*
want to buy EVERY BOOK when I know we might only read it once/twice ...
*ACK* ... I asked the main lib, "I thought ya'll kept track of how many
books were checked out and this was noted for future FUNDING??? so, you'd
THINK ya'll would ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO USE WHATEVER BOOKS THEY WANT!!!
*ACK~AGAIN*!!! finally, she said "you've made some valid points, she read
back all the complaints back to me, so I knew she was @ least listening then
she said their staff meeting is Monday morning and she would make a point of
putting this on their agenda b/c this WASN'T THE FIRST TIME she's heard
complaints from HOMESCHOOLING FMS and yes, she agreed Mr. Lib DID OVERSTEP
his boundaries!!! ... I ended by telling her "you know, this is one of the
major reasons WHY I/we decided to h-s in the first place, I didn't
appreciate the govn schools TELLING me what my dch could/not learn and here
the same system is interfering again; oops, those stinking tax $$$ @ work,
again ... I told her NEXT TIME, I'd ask to speak w/ her and we can have a
little conference instead of me ending up w/ a *HEADACHE*!!! soooooooo,
*hopefully* she was listening, we'll see ...

anddddddddddd, I hope I haven't made a bad impression on anyone ...
NORMALLY, I'm very easy going~low-key'd~laid~back type person, rarely
confrontational UNTIL SOMEONE GETS THEIR HAIRY LITTLE TOES INTO MY SPACE and
I come *UNGLUED* ...

and, Y~E~S, I *do* see all those run-on sentences but just too tired to go
back and proof ... hehe ...

Pris ~> aka/squeaky wheel :}

YOU GO PRIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good job. Sometimes when you're usually laid
back and let it all slide off, all you have at times, when you've really
been pushed, is to be a VERY squeaky wheel! ( I can relate!)

Lynda

O.K., first things first, while you're both all reved up to scrub, we are
remodeling and have tons of things that need scrubbing <g>

Now, seriously, Pris, where do you live? I think we will all come in mass
to act as character witnesses to the charges of justifiable homicide when
you ring this creatures neck!!!

Redwall and Kipling aren't appropriate? What is that person smoking?

Lynda, who hopes you find the head librarian and serve the other one's head
to them on a platter!

my teachers card to check out her mandi books on ( 5th grade chapter books )

because the teacher card was only for teaching items???? I said uh hello we
homeschool, as far as we are concerned everything they read is a teaching
item! duh some people are just so how shall we say IN THE BOX! I am so
glad to be out of it!!!!

Maybe with the exception of the Enquirer (sorry I'm not up on the correct
spelling of this rag) and some romance novels, I thought pretty much all
reading material was educational whether one hs or not. Gee one would think
a librarian would know that. Oh well, I too am just glad to be out of the
box.
