Tracy Oldfield
how interesting! specially since the Dixie Chicks are
from my neck of the woods!! There are songs about violence towards
'wayward' women, Lyle Lovett's LA County, eg, but something like this gets
stopped, hey I don't think I've heard it on my local station, hmmm
Glad to hear you got out, now if I could open my sis's eyes to
the emotional (and occasionally physical) abuse she's under...

From: Ron and StephanieSubject: [Unschooling-dotcom] OT OT OT ot ot otNow that everyone knows that this is OFF TOPIC, I wan to share something
that is very near to my heart. Tonight, I was reading my e-news. In the
entertainment section, there was a focus on the song "Goodbye Earl" by the
Dixie Chicks (Country). It stated that 20 out of 149 radio stations chose
NOT to play this song because a battered woman plots and kills her abusive
husband in it. I wrote a letter to Lon Helton (of Country Countdown USA)
regarding that particular song. I am open to any and all comments PRIVATELY.
The letter is below. I would like to know what your thought are. thanks.

Oh, I am sooo glad that someone besides me has ranted about the non-playing
of this song. There are several songs out there that are about violence
that haven't been silenced (Aerosmith's Janey's Got a Gun, the Martina
McBride song and many other's including the one about child abuse whose
name I can't remember) and none of them have been kept off the air. This
drives me crazy!
Particularly after the raising of the awareness level after "Burning Bed"
and the number of women it helped to wake up and claim control of their own
lives!
Lynda, fuming over narrow-minded dweebs!
