Are you an unschooler debate
mcole_1305 <[email protected]>
I let my 12 ds read this group and to me, he had a very enlightened
view of this discussion. He said,"Mom, as unschoolers, arent we
learning through life?" I told him yes that that is how I looked at
what we wanted, for our learning to be grounded in life. He said "So
if life shows me that I may need to take a math class to get into
college or get a better score on my ACT to reach my dreams, Am I not
still learning from life? Life gave me the dreams I have, so
unschooling gave me the dreams I have. It also taught me that I have
to take learning for myself and seek out my path to my dreams even if
that lands me in a classroom to do it. Thinking of it like that am I
still not unschooling?" I told him I thought he was. I just wanted
to post this discussion and say thanks for the thought inspiring
posts.

Not if you believe that taking a class is the ONLY possible way to
accomplish that goal. If a person thinks they can unschool until they bump
into something they need/want to learn, then they must take a class to learn
it, that isn't really unschooling.
