Have a Nice Day!

I'm thinking about having my kids do some traveling, getting to know other places around the country or even the world.

Are there others here that would be willing to host an unschooler for a few weeks?

We are in northern Minnesota, he/she might want to come in the spring, summer or fall though! Little warmer then.

I will. We're right next to DC if they want to see the nations capital.

Have a Nice Day!

Thanks for all the offers!!!

My kids are 14 (son) and almost 11 (daughter) and then I have my youngest, but she's too young for right now I think, unless I go too.

I'm not sure we're going to do anything with it just yet, but we'll see in the next few months/years.

Definitely maybe. <g>

Depends when, what age, what interests.

We're in Albuquerque, so easy place to get to!

Hi Kristen, (and everyone). I lurk here, and totally love it. I
know y'all don't know much about me since I so rarely post, but I'd
like to offer hosting to a travelling unschooler. Here in Rhode
Island there's lots of homeschoolers but I'm the only diehard
unschooler I've ever met. So real contact would be fun. I'm sorry
I'm forgetting where you live, so can't say it'd be worth it, but my
family's open to having visitors anytime. Plus we want to begin to
make contacts for our future cross country trip!
15ds, 8.5 twin dd's, and 17dd are enjoying the winter here but are
glad to be welcoming some balmy 30+ temps tomorrow.

And again, thank you all for being...

namaste,
cris

We live in northern maine and would be happy to host an unschooler, i am also interested for my eldest son, 15, to have these experiences. We would have to get to know each other first, as i am a bit apprehensive with people i dont know as i am sure you feel the same. we live in a small town bordering canada. It is the largest free land in the continental us. Alot of wildlife, bodies of water and mtns both here and in canada. We live 2 3 miles from new brunswick and although not in a very populated area, we are surrounded by the best nature has to offer. Feel free to contact me...Linda Blackwolf Salb P.S There are also many native american reservations (peaceful ones) surrounding me. This is a very safe area and believe it or not there is no crime. No walls around jail, no door or car locks, infact when we purchased our home it did even come with a key. It is very similar to alaska in many ways. blackwolf688@...

Kristen,
This sounds fun. We live in Central Virginia, home to the ghost of
Thomas Jefferson and "The University". Along with all the history, we have
the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.

Have a Nice Day!

We are near Harrisburg Pa (Amish country LOL).

And by the way, we'd probably gladly host an unschooler too.

Our home is small also, with 5 of us here, but we always manage to find room when friends sleep over.

Course, I haven't discussed ANY of this with dh yet LOL!!!

Have a Nice Day!

I feel the same about getting to know others who would host my kids for obvious safety reasons.

How can we go about doing that?

Kristen:

Some might want to check out an already well established (founded in
1948) travel network for individuals and families, Servas. For only
$75 a year registration per adult member travelers stay in each
registered host home for a two night stay free. In some cases hosts
invite travelers to stay longer. Travelers rent lists of hosts for
travel all over the world, in more than 130 countries. Domestic
travelers who also register as hosts pay only $20 per adult traveler
registration. And low income families and individuals pay only $10
per year.

We have been involved in this program for 20 years as both hosts and
travelers and absolutely love it. We just spent 8 days in the
greater Washington, D. C., area staying with four different hosts. A
great way to travel, meet neat people, make new friends, learn and
see more, too, because the hosts always tell you about neat stuff you
might never have known about otherwise. Check it out at:
