My times of overwhelming feeling is usually first thing in the morning. I am not a morning person by No means. I am a night person totally. My kids tend to speak like they are speaking through a mic, though they are not. As soon as they see me move a little in my bed the requests and demands starts. This is when I feel overwhelmed . The cats are at me for food, the kids want food and to play and to know exactly what we are doing todqay. AHH!! I am also pregnunt so hormones do play a part sometimes too. Most other times it's because I am not in a good place. When it's because of my stuff, I tell them that Momma not feeling good or not in a good place emotional and I need help with cooperation. Also, my kids are at that point where they can help themsleves. They are 4 and 7.

Maybe you can look forward to the day, some time in the future, when the
early rising kids will be able to feed the early rising cats?

You could try putting the kids' cereal in covered bowls and putting the milk
in small pitchers (measuring cup?) and they could help themselves in the am.
The same could be done with the cats' food (if it's dry) and water, the
kids could feed the cats.

That will only last a little while, and then they'll be on the teen
biological clock, staying up really late and sleeping in. <g> Mine was
still up at 3:15 this morning when I got up for a pee. It's around 11:30
now, and I don't expect to see him very soon.
