Oh, that's us for sure. 'Course our whole house is pretty much visible from
the front door :)

A room without books is just not finished. Like a soulless person or
something.....

Oh yes. I have friends with diamonds and I think "what's the point?" and I'm
pretty girly-girl type.
I'd never spend $500 on a piece of jewelry I don't think, but books? Oh yeah.

I have a pair of Viking pins, matched, with black stones, which cost $70
together. I think that's my most expensive jewelry! <g> And a coronet
which pretty much matches them, but that doesn't have a price on it; a friend
made those.

Sometimes I have a book-buying binge, and the bill comes and it's a couple of
hundred dollars and Keith starts to moan and I say "Hey! I don't wear
expensive clothes, fancy underwear, I don't wear make-up, I don't have my
hair done, I don't smoke, I don't drink; leave me my small vice!!

Hey, I'm gonna have to use this one! I never quite thought about it

My daughters boyfriend just showed me 1/2 carat diamond stud earrings he
bought her for Christmas. They are beautiful and set him back some with a
ZALES card. She's going to absolutely love them. She's that type, and a book
would be totally lost on her unless it was a catalog!! (she's the school
kid)

Anyway, her earrings totally blows away anything I have in my little jewelry
box. I would love to have diamonds. I can only imagine how many books I
could buy for what I sold them for. <BEG>

Yes, same here, I'll go book binging and he'll start in on me and all I have to say is, "I think I'll go have my hair done and my nails and my face and my legs etc.." and he lifts his hands up and says "OK, OK"

I just bought my latest piece of jewelry and I'm tickled--'jeweled watch' at Target, $11.00.

Then he can use them to make you some more bookshelves. <g>

All right now. Remember, I was up at 3am watching shooting stars so
I'm a little off my game this morning! <G> But come to think of it,
he doesn't wear expensive clothes or fancy underwear (in fact, I have
to go through his stuff every now and then to toss out the threadbare
stuff, otherwise he'd wear things until they disintegrated), he gets
his hair cut about once a year (at the cheapest place he can find,
natch), and as far as I know he doesn't wear makeup either! <lol>

So as far as vices go, I guess I should be happy that the top of the
line "table" variety are the only ones he indulges in!

Mine mends his himself. I finally had to tell him he was only allowed to
mend his underwear twice before I throw it out. <g>

Mine gets his cut about twice a year. Sometimes he promises the kids he
coaches that he'll shave his beard and/or head if they win something
important. I'm trying to get him to see the downside of rewards. <g> (I
really like him shaggy.)

Hi,
When I worked in preschool, I bought from Scholastic all the time. The
teacher (I was the assistant) would get three or four books a month, I'd get
a whole boxful. One day she smiled when my delivery came, and feeling
sheepish, I said, "I can't help it. Books are my weakness." She said, "No
they're not. They're your passion."
YESSSS!!!

PS Anyone see the Dr. Phil where the wife complained that her husband had
too many books? She should come here. I had to give away the couch from my
front room so I'd have a place to put more bookcases.

Can I like jewelry AND books? I actually have several nice pieces...my grandmother was
really into jewelry and I got several of her pieces (each has a story behind it). She
also gave me a 15 point diamond for my birthday every year until I turned 20 . Hubby
set six of them set in a gorgeous ring for me one year and the other 14 went into a necklace.

Hubby used to buy me jewelry when I used to work, but since I have been at home I have
found there is not much need. I have everything that I really would want...

As far as books go, I am lucky. My dad and I have similar tastes in fiction so he passes
me his books when he is done. I have gotten better at checking homeschooling/parenting
books out from the library and then buying the ones that I know I will want to refer
to later.

I buy the kids books constantly...can't wait for Dec 12...the Scholastic book warehouse
is having a teachers sale that includes homeschoolers...all their books are 50% off.
Jason and I were in heaven when they did this last spring. A huge warehouse filled with
books at great prices. Ahhhh.....

Maybe *that's* a good unschooling indicator: whether someone would rather
have diamonds or books ;-)

Phew! Glad to know I 'may' fit in...;)

Speaking of bookcases, a friend of mine just sent this link...anyone
handy out there could probably make these painting the ends to look the
same. Definitely would let others see our love for books!

Whew! That is a relief. :o) But I realized that I would fit Joyce's
criteria...I would definitely choose a good book over a piece of jewelry
if it came to that. :o)

Actually I used to really like to get new jewelry before I became a SAHM. Probably
because I had a reason to wear it to work. Now I have a few favorite pieces that
I wear and don't have a need for anything new...poor dh...he used to love to
pick something out and surprise me. Luckily he has *great* taste in jewelry....
