Nope, never heard of it. But I was wondering about Take Off! It sounded
like a game my son might enjoy, but I was hoping someone who knows the game
could tell me if it's pretty basic geography, or truly something
interesting.

I've seen great reviews in magazines, but these are the same folks that tell
me I *must* wear eye liner, so I have the habit of questioning their
opinions!

Speaking of games...any good game suggestions for a nearly 6 yo? We have some of
the basics (chess, checkers, chutes and ladders, sorry, trouble). Jason loves
board and card games. There are so many out there....any ones stand out in
your memory?

I need suggestions for the grandparents for christmas....

Nora or Devereaux Cannon

Yahtzee Junior! ...and amazingly enough, if you get a really
pretty set, Parcheesi has been a hit here since age 4. Gear
trains and marble runs (both tube and MegaBlock variety) provide
hours of fun, thought they are more building sets than "games".

Dylan liked Clue, Yahtzee, Mancala, and because he loved dinosaurs
Survival or Extinction.
He still likes some of these, and now he really likes and plays SET a
lot.

We have "Dino-monopoly" - a monopoly game where you get to buy spaces to
put your "dino feet" on, and then collect anywhere from $1 to $4 when
people land there. Plus you get cards with dinosaur info on them to read
while you're waiting for your turn. <g>

We are big board games people. My kids' current favorite seems to be
Lego Creator. They also like Guess Who and Presto Chango. Dd also
likes a Wild THornberry game called Snapshot Safari.

Todd's sig line:

***You're just jealous because the voices are talking to ME! <g>***

The other day when I was having the flashes of light that signal an
oncoming migraine my son lovingly patted me on the hand and said, "I'm
sorry mom... but the lights are better than the voices."
He really thinks he's funny!

If this is the one I'm thinking of, it's pretty good. The only problem we
had with it was that it didn't fit on our table. It didn't get played much
because my body doesn't enjoy sitting on the floor. <g>

My granddaughter, who really hates losing, has really been enjoying the
Family Pasttimes cooperative games. (At least I think that's the company.)
You play them as a group, and it's the group that either wins or loses. She
handles this better.

She also enjoyed Scrabble Junior when she was about 6.

We like charades, pictionary - our own version, Gotcha and Twister. One of the games that I have my eye on for when he can write is the A-Z game for kids. Don't know if it is available in the US though??

Another popular one here is Operation.

Here is good selection of games

I just ordered the Dorling Kindersley Amazing Game Board Book - More than 50 games and activities. Don't know what it will be like though.

Not really a game, but loads of fun! Gears!!! Go to Mindspring.com to see
some Gears. We bought our first set at a local toy store. And Zoobs if you
can still find them.
We like Quiddler and Set and Walking with Dinosaurs and the Great States
Game. Pick Up Sticks and Dominos. There are two versions of Dominos that are
popular here, one is Spinners and the other is Tri-ominos. All the old
favorites; War, Slapjack, Uno, Skip-Bo, Go Fish, Old Maid, any of the
Monopoly versions out there, Scrabble, Jr., Pictionary, Jr., we like them
all. Order a set of Thinking Sticks from Sandra! Jack plays and he doesn't
look at the words, he has made up some super involved color game with them.
He wants me to order a special set from Sandra that just have colors and no
words. I told him I would buy some popsicle sticks for him and he could paint
them all by himself. (He doesn't believe me, he thinks Sandra has made them
in some special way. <g>)

If Dylan likes Survival and Extinction, he would like Walking With Dinosaurs.
Jack really gets a kick out of it. (Especially when someone gets stuck in
some period and never evolves! <g>) We are thinking about getting Walking
With Prehistoric Beasts next. <A HREF="http://www.mindwareonline.com/mwstore/index.cfm">MindWareOnline! - Brainy Toys for Kids of All

thinking of emailing my Dad <g> its MindWare. Sorry. :o)

My kids have enjoyed a series of cooperative games that include
Granny's House and Sleeping Grump, by a company called Family
Pastimes. Big faves with my 6 y.o. also include Parcheesi, Yahtzee,
chess, Scrabble, Battleship, Mastermind, and of course the inevitable
Candy Land (No, please, don't let me draw Mister Mint again,
aarrrgghhhhh). Oh yeah, and he just taught his little sister to play
Tic Tac Toe. They were playing it in pen on her stomach last I saw...

My son just loves Monopoly and also Kismet, which I'm not sure they have
anymore. But Yahtzee is pretty much like it. He also likes Battleship and
Scrabble. There is a junior edition my kids love.

I have to second the Ravensburger games...

My daughters two favorite games are both Ravensburger...Amazing Labryinith and Enchanted forest. They are so well, and beautifully made! You can also get them from the internet via ebay, which is where I got both games.

Missing instructions? There is a site. It would take me some time tof find it but it is there...

Oh, I know that's what you do, but for some reason, Jack has it in his head
that you have done something totally differential! <bg> Maybe its because it
came in the mail? Who knows what a 6yo thinks! But he is sure that his
"Sander Odd color sticks" are extra-special, made just by you, especially for
him, and there is no way we could ever reproduce them. <bwg>
