Why is it that hot water freezes faster than cold water?
I think this is true, but why?

Well, the theory is that being hotter to start with, the rate of heat loss
is more rapid.

But. Think about it.

After a certain point, that hot water would become cold water, and from
there, the rate of heat loss would be the same. So.

Try it out for yourself, see if it's true.

I believe I have heard that water which has been boiled freezes
faster...trying to remember why that is? Lori in TX

I don't know about freezing faster, but water that is warm freezes clear.
Cold water freezes more cloudy.

My dad used to say this. I don't know if it's true or not but something
about the the rapid drop in temperature starting out and continues to be
rapid until frozen... Cold water gradually gets colder but hot water in a
freezer drops very quickly.
