Dear Friends,
As you know, this eGroup has been free of charge since
its inception. Yahoo is now considering charging for
its e-lists and eGroups and/or drastically limiting
the services it makes available to eGroup subscribers.
This will be devastating to a number of online
communities who do not wish to charge fees for eGroup
services, and do not wish to limit existing services
such as archived messages, files, bookmarks, and the
like.
I have already taken Yahoo's survey, and I
wholeheartedly encourage everyone to do the same,
especially if you do not want services to be reduced
or charges to be levied. If we do not let Yahoo hear
our
voices now, decisions by Yahoo will certainly be made
without our input! Therefore, please take a few
minutes to complete this survey at
http://promo2.yahoo.com/sbin/Groups/survey.cgi
Many thanks!

They over extended when they gobbled up other groups, or so I understand.
Kinda bit off more than they could chew. Also, advertisers aren't happy
with lots of folks that use lists and have either bought software to stop
the ads or have found other ways to stop the ads.
That is one of the reasons they revamped and now if you are using web read
every fourth message you click on pops up as an ad first and then you get a
prompt to go to the message.

I took the survey and on it they state that they are exploring the possibility of charging for a higher level of memory, care, perks etc. I really hope it doesnt happen because I would not pay I would leave yahoo. I took the survey and I urge everyone else to also.

They began offering to remove advertising from the bottom of each post for a
fee about 2 years ago. The fee would be for list owners to not have
advertising on their emails. I personally dont even notice the ads anymore.
Some of my other lists have html mail and the ads there are quite large and
when they first put them on we squaked, but being unwilling to pay for
service we have learned to ignore them.
