I *really* need to get my son's father a SIMPLE TO READ book on
unschooling, its benefits, especially about the TV isn't bad issue.

Can anyone recommend a good simple, to the point book?

A link to amazon or other bookseller is fine, I'll just buy it online and
have it sent.

Thanks!

I'd recommend some of the old GWS conference tapes (are they still available anywhere?). He could listen to them to and from work...

thanks Sarah. I've tried tapes. He hates listening to them instead of
music.

I'm dealing with a difficult situation. You know the saying 'retrain
after lunch'? Its like that, I explain, he walks away, he comes back a
day later yelling and screaming as if yesturday never took place.

I was hoping a short, simple book would help. I'm going to try the one
Elissa suggested.

thanks all...

I've GOT it! We'll get somebody to transcribe the tapes, help my dd memorize the un-readable words and we'll have *her* sing them :-)

If you buy it through FUN books, the company that bought out the Holt
Associates book business not long ago, you’ll be supporting unschoolers
rather than a huge, anonymous entity like Amazon.

One of the reasons Holt Associates had to sell the book end of the business
was the fact that people would receive their catalog in the mail (and those
catalogs were expensive to produce and mail) and then order everything
through Amazon to get a discount.

Maybe you’ll compare prices, find a discount at Amazon, and decide to go
with that. But you might have a look first and consider the other option.

You can go to http://www.holtgws.com <http://www.holtgws.com/> and link
from there to FUN books. I don’t know for sure that this particular book is
available there, but it’s likely.

If there’s anywhere to get those tapes, it’s got to be at the Holt
Associates website, http://www.holtgws.com <http://www.holtgws.com/> , or
by linking to FUN books from there.

I recommend :"The unschooling Handbook:How to use the whole world as your
child's classroom", by Mary Griffith, Prima Publishing, 1998, ISBN
0-7615-1276-4. You can check the details at:www.primapublishing.com (so it
says in the book!).

I was looking for different ways of explaining unschooling myself and found
this book very helpful. The author interviewed a variety of unschoolers so
it is presented through different angles. The better to reach any person???

Chapter #3 is called "Tv or Not TV ( and other questions of technology).
Pros and cons are explored.

You're welcome
Lucie
