In Louisiana, we did end up registering as a private school after just not
doing anything for awhile (then my father turned me in to the school board).
Since moving here to PA. I have done nothing so far, which is my inclination
anyway, wherever I am. If I am pushed here, I will probably register with one
of the independent schools that deals with the school board for you.

I registered as a private school because we received a warning of
truancy note from the school board. Laurie was FIVE years old! I was
appalled. I have no idea how they got our name.

Here in California, we file an affidavit every year that states we are a private school. When I took my DD out of school the first time (yes, it took a couple of knocks in the head!), they listed my DD as truant. I didn't know to file an affidavit at that time and you don't think they would tell me! I found some homeschooling groups the next week, so she has a truancy of 9 days on her school record! Big Fat Deal!

I think every child is deserving of 12 years of truancy... :-)

We were originally so worried that she was going to have this awful mark on her record, but then a friend at homeschooling support group park day asked me, "When was the last time you had to prove your record from school?" That got me to thinking! Some of the people that work with my DH have falsified their college degrees! So I don't think a negative mark on elementary school records is going to hurt her chances of becoming a doctor or whatever she wants to be......

lol...can you see her applying to attend college and them
saying, "I'm sorry. You were truant in kindergarten!"

When I registered for college at age 43, they asked for my high
school transcript. I got one and saw that they had marked me for only
half a credit in P.E. my junior year. I only took 3 classes in my
senior year, so this meant I didn't have enough to graduate! I did
however graduate with a 3.8. I phoned them and said I needed to get
that changed because it just wasn't right. They said, "The person
that marked that died and there is no way we can change it without
her." How's that for efficiency? Luckily the college registrar wasn't
paying attention and never noticed.

I was ill ny sophmore year of high school, walking pneumonia, asthma, severe allergies sinus infections. I was out of school for three months. They had six doctors notes and lost them all. They wanted to expell me from school and refused to let me make up the work. I flunked that year and had to repeat it. That looks wonderful on my transcript.
