My four year old has a number of issues, not the least
of which is an overactive imagination and a tendency
towards agression. He is also one of those sensative
kids for whom every event is blown up larger than
life. There are many films DESIGNED for kids that I
will no let him watch, because he both emulates pretty
much everything he sees and hears and because he has
nightmares, night terrors, etc. He hides behind the
furniture, peeking out, during certain parts of Scooby
Doo movies, and ET. I ask if he wants me to turn them
off but he says no. So I take special care to talk to
him about shows that seem to upset him, and try to
limit how often he watches them.

He also cannot handle the frantic pace of commercial
TV, so we do not watch it. He mirrors what he is
exposed to, and the hyper tv gets him all worked up.
Plus I hate commercials. :-)

My younger child, on the other hand, has no problem
watching certain adult films and is not bothered by
any of it. He is an exceedingly gentle child, crying
if you look at him crossly. But he loved X-Men for
the the super hero action. He only saw it once
though, since we do not make a habit of letting him
watch things like that, but if he happens to be around
when we are (like staying up late or whatever) it's
not a big deal. He ignores the tv through adult
conversation and situations, only paying attention to
action and effects.

Mine have seen all of these movies and many others as well. And like your
children they don't dwell on the violence or "adult content", we discuss the
movies and they move on.

Have you seen "Battlefield Earth"? This is a really good movie and actually
has some valuable lessons in it.

I haven't seen this movie, it didn't interest me as I'm not a John Travolta fan.........nor am I am Scientology fan either.  I'm curious what types of lessons are in the movie, maybe I might change my mind on seeing it?
