take the kids with us and let them see the world for themselves! Someday we
would like to maybe move to Arusha, Tanzania, where we have visited (before
kids) and really loved it. We'd like to be volunteer pilots and let the kids
experience living somewhere else without being tourists. Such a beautiful
country.

Robin,
By pilots, you mean you fly? That's
awesome. DH flies too but I'm a chicken. I like to keep my feet on
the ground as much as possible. - Collette

You are all welcome to come live with us! DH
is originally from India so he's used to 4 or more families in one house. Plus I
thrive on having as many people/family and as much community around me as
possible, as I'm sure you can tell from my CONSTANT posting! -

Robin,
My brothers and sisters and I have always said
we're going to buy a private island or a thousand acres of land we could all
live on. Wouldn't it be awesome!? I never thought about a whole
island of unschoolers. That would be a free and spirited community!
A community of happy and self expressed people, it's an exciting
thought.-Collette

Be careful, we might just take you up on that :-)
I'm with you, I love having community. Don'tcha think there should be
"Unschooling Island" somewhere where we could all just live and pursue our
interests in wonderful community? So your kid wants to learn basket weaving
or bicycle repair, just send them down the street to Jerry who weaves
wonderful baskets or Dee who knows all about bicycles or, or, or........

Pilots, skydivers, have tried hangliding. I love being up there in the sky.
I grew up with it, my dad was career law enforcement, but that was such a
tame job that in his spare time he was a volunteer air ambulance pilot,
flying in and out of dinky airstrips in an old Beech18 set up with
stretchers and such. I come by the adrenaline junky thing naturally ;-)

Definetly cool. Isn't that what community was all
about in the pioneer days? Husbandry, Farming, etc? I would for one be
interested in basket weaving or blacksmithing. I mean I would love to be a jack
of all trades <G>.

Tracy,
Maybe our common ground could be we trust our kids
and stay out of each others business(that would be a something,
huh?). I like debating and having my ideas challenged, it helps me
grow, as long as it doesn't become personal attacks. Besides I didn't say we'd
have to live in the same house.LOL-Collette

Um. After the aggro on another list I'm on atm I'm reinded of the
quote 'Hell is other people.' A potential drawback (for me, anyway)
would be the fact that we're all so forthright and radical and stuff
that it might be difficult for us to find some consensus to live by!
Now, obviously one would hope that this wouldn't be the case, but
like I said...
I'd love to live in a space where my children could find someone to
play out with who wasn't into fighting with the opposite sex, for the
sake of it, and can relate to people who don't go to school! Now
that would be nice!!

I can envisage, actually, that it would be extremely beneficial to live
in such a community, I just felt like playing Devil's Advocate, or
something ;-)
