Here are some adult books:

Try "The Sparrow" and it's sequel. Lots of great food for thought on the
ethics of visiting "other worlds" and animal husbandry, and you will just
love the characters.

I've also enjoyed the Farseer series and the Liveship Traders series both
by Robin Hobb, but I know the author, so may be a little biased. They
are fantasy more than science fiction. These were at the library in my
little town, so they should be easy to find. There is a website for more
