>>>And to combat the inherent email communication problems,
I just noticed that the original post did say "to put a little math in
their schedule", so when I responded it did sound like I meant that it was still
unschooling when the INTENT was to do math. However, I do think that "I'm
going to play games with my kids that will help them learn math" is a step in
the right direction. Much better than "I will assign math worksheets so my
kids will learn math"! Some of us might start with playing games to help
kids learn and then discover how much more fun it is to just play games than it
is to "teach". Perhaps "unschooling" exists on a continuum, rather that as
a set point somewhere?

Perhaps, but there's no sense taking twelve years to travel that continuum!

Maybe. But I would still say that if someone is at the beginning
of such a continuum, maybe they're not "strictly unschooling".
Sounds more like thinking about unschooling, or hoping to unschool, or maybe
"relaxed" homeschooling. My advice to anyone who was at that point would
be to jump right in, the water's fine :). Why waste a lot of time dipping
your toes in the edge? Too quickly those kids will be adults, and you, and
they, may never have gotten wet. (A goofy analogy, I
know)
I
would like to say that I am enjoying being able to have a thoughtful discussion
with people who basically understand where I'm coming from. Good to know
you're out there, since everyone around us just thinks we're nuts
:).
