for all those too skint/lazy/tight/stupid to go and buy this stuff in
the shops, does anyone know if it's possible to make a sensible
version (for making fondant icing) oneself, and if so, how does one
go about it?

I just looked in my Joy of Cooking that has a Basic
Fondant 1C Water, 3C Sugar 1/16t cream of tartar.
Hope that helps give you proportions(sp?). The
directions are quite complex/ more than I feel like
typing at the moment.

hoping that helps,
Samantha
