Bertolt Brecht

"Don't be afraid of death so much as an inadequate life." - Bertolt Brecht
(1898-1956)
****
Bertolt Brecht was the most famous German playwright of the 20th century.
His best works include "Three Penny Opera," "The Caucasian Chalk Circle,"
and "The Life of Galileo."
An outspoken Marxist, Brecht, referred to himself as merely a "Stuecke
Schreiber" (writer of fragments)--as opposed to the more exalted sounding
"poet" or "playwright." He liberally employed the "alienation effect"
(German--Verfremdungseffekt) in his dramas in order to poignantly lampoon
bourgeois values.
