I'm in Ma and our summer was terrible! Cold and rainy. The last time we had
a summer like this was in '96 (summer my middle dd was born) and that winter
we had an ice storm that shut down everything for 4 days and numerous
snowstorms after that. I'm bracing for a BAD winter. Big Sigh!

P.S. Today isn't supposed to get out the 60s and tonight is supposed to be

Well, I guess I shouldn't complain. We can always run up the hill for the
heat. And, our nights don't vary from the days by more than 5 to 10
degrees. Ice storms, NEVER! Hmmmm, maybe that is why hubby never seems to
want to travel east and visit his hometown.

Behind the Redwood Curtain <g> Humboldt County. If your kidlets have seen
Lost World (the Jurassic Park sequel), then you have seen one of the places
we go on the weekends to let the kidlets run or watch the elk that roam all
over in huge herds (we have signs on the freeway for elk crossings as they
litterly life right on the side of the road) or play in the surf.
We get lots of fog and rain but can drive out of it. All within an easy
drive we have seven rivers, 2 lakes, five lagoons, about half a million
acres in state and national parks, miles and miles of play upon ocean
beaches, a bay that is calm enough for kayaking and skulling, a zoo in the
middle of town and rural enough that we have beer, racoons, fox and
occasionally a bear that wander through city streets.

Sorry Pris... I have no sympathy for you as we live in Tucson, AZ
where that "dry heat" they keep talking about is at 100 degrees today
and we've had this weather since the end of April this year. It's
one of the reasons we are moving to Colorado next year as I cannot
stand another summer indoors. The swimming pool gets a bit old and I
will get even older looking if I stay out in the sun too much longer
(LOL)

It's true. All true. But you know, I wouldn't change it for the world.
What's fall with out crisp leaves beneath your feet? What's Christmas
without snow? What's spring without the flowers blooming? And what's summer
without fireflies?

Amy,
Good point about the seasons....we are suffering the FL heat and looking
forward to 60 degree temps....I don't really enjoy the really cold weather
but after many summers swelter in the heat, I think I am changing my mind....

We have one or two a year wander through different areas of town. You can
go from one side of town to the other and never leave an area that is
somewhat forested. We are called little SF because of all the hills which
are cut up and down the gullies. These gullies create a network that the
deer, raccoons and fox use on a regular basis. Occasionally the bears come
visiting too. The difference is these bears have never been socialized
(like feeding in Yosemite, etc.) so they are afraid of humans and usually
run or try to hide up a tree. About 2 miles from my house you can go and
park at night and hear mountain lions <g>
And, hey, I want you to know that I live in the "big" city here <g>
