Re: [Unschooling-dotcom] Summer unschooling ideas

The rain painting did sound like fun! :) My mom tries to do a summer"camp"
for all of her grandkids that can be around and take part. This year we will
be doing some crafts and activities that go along with a frog theme. My
oldest (5 yo) son found frog eggs recently. We scooped them up and watched
them hatch into tadpoles. We have kept them for a week, and today put them
out into a plastic baby pool. It has been fascinating for the kids and me to
study them. We have a small pond in our back yard where we have about 4
frogs and lots of goldfish, and snails. We have studied how snails move-- it
is pretty interesting, too. Also, in our backyard we have a "meadow" and
have been watching all the different butterflies and birds that come. My son
has enjoyed feeding the birds at our feeder! It is amazing how our own
backyard has become such a "laboratory" of nature! Just thought I'd share
some unschooling activities that we are doing... what is everyone else doing
this summer? ~Karen

We live in Tucson, where it's hotter 'n Hades. We like to go up to Mt. Lemmon.
We moved here from Louisiana, where it's strictly two-dimensional, and we had
missed the mountains a lot.

you go up to the mtn, eat some trail mix for me! Have you ever encountered
animals? We had a very large bear interrupt a picnic once back in Tenn. No
contest, the bear won-- we got into our car (luckily it was close by) and
watched our food be devoured. :) ~Karen

WAIT for our weather to cool off so we can go camping again ... camping

We had a friend that gave us an idea that we used during really miserable
hot weather--mini vacations. He would save coupons and look for deals and
then rent a room at a motel that had a swimming pool. They would take
along picnic foods and watch movies and swim. It has saved our sanity more
than once and only costs about $30.
