After reading "The Unprocessed Child", the author mentioned being
influenced by this book so I have been researching and thought I'd share.

I am not submitting this here to start a debate...I just thought it
would be an interesting read for the unschooling type or even the
curious about unschooling type. A.S. Neill started this "school" in
England that has a current website and is now run by his daughter:
http://www.summerhillschool.co.uk/

There is an updated copy of his book "Summerhill School: A New View on
Childhood" which was written originally in the 60's. I haven't read it
yet but found in our library this one titled: "Summerhill: For and
Against" and so far it is a fascinating read, especially if you like
debates. There is a case by John Holt inside as well as many other
notable educators...although the book is outdated it makes some
interesting points. This may be old news for the unschooling board
veterans but I thought the newbies like me might be interested in the
books. Amazon has snippets of the book you can peruse to get the
general facts about what Summerhill is all about.

Look up "Sudbury Schools" in Google, you'll find a whole sleuth of schools
like this around the world.

I second the PP about recommending the Sudbury schools if interested
in this. Summerhill was first published in the US in the late 1960s,
though it's much older than that, and its publication triggered a wave
of free schools at that time including Sudbury school. Many schools
flamed out but there are ones from that time period still going strong.

I am interested in opening some sort of free school down the road,
perhaps a Sudbury school. I really like the idea of it and I like the
opportunity to bring an unschooling experience to kids who otherwise
may not get it. I know this topic is a bit off for this forum so feel
free to contact me off list if you want to talk about it at all.
