Looking for a book name
Christy Putnam
Hey Ya'll! I have heard of a book that addresses punitive punishments and
using rewards but I cant remember the name of it or who the author is. Can
anyone shed some light?
Thanks!

If I had to guess (and I shall) it's "Punished by Rewards" by Alfie Kohn.

I haven't read this book but have heard of it... It reminds me of discussing the sucker offered at the Pediatricians office when Jacob was a toddler. The entire office staff thought my concern was the sugar and assured me that the suckers were sugar free.
The never got the point that it was the "reward" for a Dr. visit that I was trying to avoid...............
The "rewards" system in public elementary system is pretty silly at best when I look back on it.

Although it never surprises me when they choose not to get a lolly
because they want something salty rather than sweet or just don't want
anything at the moment. They've even taken them and put them in their
pockets for later (which I generaly end up retrieving before they get
washed.) Always surprises the heck of them when that happens! I
think that we have the ability to be able to use what someone else
deems as a "reward" by not making it so. And sorry all I can think
about is Ewww, sugar free lollies? That wouldn't be a reward to begin
with - that would be a punishment. "Here ya go kid. For being good a
yucky lolly!" LOL!!
