i am trying to discuss unschooling with my sister and she asked
about the socializing aspect. i answered as best i could remember i
had been taught, but i would like some links if possible. i am
searching on my own too, i just thought i would ask you all as
well. thanks for any help, leslie in tx

My standard response to this is: "How many teachers do YOU remember saying,
'You're not here to socialize!'" (usually it's a high enough number to shut
them up)<bg>

As a teacher, I say it every day! They aren't there to socialize.
Occassionally a well meaning but stupid educator will ask me how my own
children will ever learn to get along with others, and they are pretty
shocked when I point out the type of socialization that occurs within
school, and the type that doesn't. Makes them think.
