Ms. Ren Allen is one of the owners and you are completely out of line
with our guidelines. All further posts will be rejected out of respect
for the list!

~~Look lady,you don't know me are anything about me,please don't judge.~~

We're responding to what you wrote. If you don't want it discussed,
please don't post about it.

What?

IMO relating unschooling to Christian values or not would really limit the group.

I think it's important to maintain that distinction. I'm sure there are a zillion specific Christian Unschooling lists out there.

She's right - it's about unschooling and how to move in the direction of
unschooling and respectful parenting, REGARDLESS of what an individual's
belief system is or is not. I *am* a Christian and don't see a problem
combining unschooling and my belief in Jesus. My responses to situations
posed are rooted in my belief system, as is everything I do every day
(or at least I try to). There's nothing yet that I've found that creates
a dichotomy between belief in Jesus and unschooling. There are groups
*specific to* Christian unschoolers - that's not this one. This is
unschooling Basics - belief system is irrelevant to someone who is
trying to get a handle on what unschooling is and how it works and what
it looks like day to day. My house will look different than Ren's
because we're different families with different belief systems BUT the
basic principles are the same - love, respect, trust, freedom (and
aren't they the bottom line principles of Christianity anyhow?)

Exactly. We're an inclusive group, which means that their are people
of many different faiths (or no faith) present here and I don't want
anyone to feel preached at about ANYTHING religious. We're all here to
discuss unschooling and gentle parenting, not religious beliefs.

If your religion causes you to hit, spank or shame children, it might
be time to rethink the whole issue.

Did I just drop into the twilight zone????

First of all, if you're posting against list guidelines that has
nothing to do with telling you what to believe. It's called running a
list in the way we believe is best and if you don't like it, there are
other lists. Our guidelines exist to help everyone get the most out of
the UNschooling discussion.

Secondly, communism isn't telling people what to believe....it's a
philosophy though. You can read more about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communism

No, I'm not a communist, but I do enjoy reading about points of view
that are different from my own.:)

I know there are many Christians on this list. It doesn't matter. This
is a secular list to discuss unschooling. Religion doesn't enter into
it.

Unschooling and Mindful Parenting transcend religion. It's about how
you treat your children---no matter what your religion or lack of.

Me'thinks you're very confused at this point.
She was saying that by making the list a Christian focus, it would
limit it...not a positive thing. I'm not sure we can have clear
conversation if the thinking isn't so clear.

Ok, I really am in the twilight zone.

Deb agrees with the evil Ren Allen and you're appreciating her words?

What we're trying to tell you, is that whether you're a Christian or
not, that has nothing to do with the discussions on this list.

This is a privately owned list. Owned by me and Ren. Ren and I and our
moderators, Deb and Rue, have the right to tell anyone anything on our
list. That's not communism (we *own* the list).

The list is about unschooling---how to incorporate it into your life.
Do you want to unschool? Why? Do you understand what it's about? Do you
want to?

We can help.

Most of our words are simply falling on deaf ears folks. The person in
question has now written me offlist to inform me that it's a free
country and she can post whatever she wants at my list and email me
whatever she wants about Jesus because it's her right.

I don't think all the collective energy in trying to help is doing
much good unfortunately. There have been some really fabulous posts
throughout this discussion though.:)

I think I'm going to leave the twilight zone now and go rub Trevor's
back. He's getting the flu and needs his Mum.

Ren

I think you should slow down, take a breath and read what is being stated to you. No one has stated what you are or are not to BELIEVE in. What has been stated is that some things that have been posted are in fact against the posting guidelines of the group. This is not communism, this is a small community of people tied together by email.

To reinstate what Ren already let you know, you need to read up on the subject of Communism before throwing the term around, it doesn't make you seem smarter or better than anyone else here to use a big word improperly.

Mindy Evans

Well, I believe in Jesus with my whole heart and soul. However, this is a group about unschooling and not a strictly christian one. I believe there are groups you can find that ARE christian groups.
In no way am I denying Jesus, and I too feel it is my duty to fulfill the great commission. HOWEVER, you can't do that by shouting at people all the time. Sometimes just being known as a Christian can be the greatest light you can shine.
The bible says you are not to behave so that people will see you as a fool. I am NOT saying you are a fool, but to trying to cram Jesus down the throat of those who are not here to hear that, is unfruitful and unwanted.
Thats all the Christianity you will hear from me unless someone wants to talk to me off list about it!
Blessings-
Mindy

ouch, my head hurts! All those CAPS!

Wow! All thos CAPS hurt my head too and its too early for that! Think JOY!

There are christian unschooling lists and if you want them feel free to
email me off list. This is a list for everyone and unschooling is about
respect.. for everyone and their beliefs.

I love this list and enjoy all that I read and learn about every day. Our
journey into unschooling is just beginning and its been made easier and more
real by this list.

Thankyou Deb, it really is regardless of different beliefs. We are a
Vaisnava family, although I was raised Catholic, and the truth is the
basic principles are the same, humility, tolerance, love, and the
other qualities you mention below.
