Hi, I have been reading on Sandra's site about unschoolers going on to college in the USA. Does anyone have any accounts of unschoolers in the UK going on to University and how they got there? Or can anyone point me in the direction of any accounts?

Sitting on the couch with my 7 year old son watching The Clone Wars and wondering how on earth we get from here to there (if he wants to).

Thanks

If you are on Facebook there is a group called the UK Unschooling Network which has a file which is a list of various things unschooled kids have gone on to do.

Yes. If you join some of the UK home ed groups on Facebook (there's even an unschooling/autonomous learning one), there's a file by Julie Coles Bunker talking about adults who were either unschooled or autonomously home educated.

Hi Sara,
I hope someone will actually post with some accounts of unschoolers getting into uni in the UK, but I wanted to share my own story of how I got into Uni in the UK after failing all my GCSE's and leaving school at 16, as I imagine similar paths are available to unschoolers....

I decided I wanted to go to Uni in my mid-20's, and the local college offered what was then called an 'Access Course' for mature age students (which I believe was anyone over 21). It was the equivalent of doing your A Levels in one year, and allowed you to then apply to Uni through the UCAS system. I was accepted to Aberdeen University, my first choice, after finishing my Access Course :)

That is just one potential route into Uni, i'm sure there are many others.
Cheers
Jo
