my 10 year old is now interested in learning about current american politics and the court system. he wants me to read stuff with him, primarily, although i bet good video resources would be fun too. any suggestions?

The West Wing!! He might be a bit young for it, but if he's interested
in politics, it might be just right for him.

Watching any of the Law and Order shows would be a good way to learn about the court system and even politics.  I myself have learned a lot from them.
